Jidou El Moctar is a Mauritanian runner who competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the 200 m event. He was the flagbearer of Mauritania at the opening ceremony. El Moctar was eliminated in the first round but finished with a personal best time of 22.94 seconds.
Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Mohamedou is a Mauritanian scholar. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mauritania from 2008 until 2009. A Harvard University academic, Mohamedou is currently Professor of International History at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva.
Ibn Razqa or Abdallah Ould Maham Ould Qadi was a well-known poet and scholar from Mauritania. He is sometimes called "the father of the Mauritanian poets". He was the grandson of Abd-Allah al-Qadi.
